Research :: Summary :: IRC3 :: Utilities :: Security

This page is horribly out of date, I hope to soon start posting here again.

Over the past few years I have worked on numerous small projects, a lot of these never saw anything more than basic proof of concept code. However some have come a lot futher. Over time I will be adding updates and new projects to this section, so please check back.

The most recent piece of work is finding and documenting the security vulnerability in mIRC. A detailed description and proof of concept exploit code is available in the security section.

During the last year and a half I have been working on a replacement to IRC (Internet Relay Chat). There are a number of serious issues with the current protocol, in short it doesn't scale well. Other projects have attempted to overcome the issue of reliably supporting large userbases, and have had varying degrees of success. I have taken a much more radical design approach, when I finally finish my code it will be possible to add many features to IRC. Currently it is still at a relatively early stage of development. Check out the irc3 section

Since late '98 I have been working on IRCBounce, a Windows application to tunnel IRC through an HTTPS proxy. The current version is available to download and in the relatively near future I will be making the source code publically available. Also (again if I get time to do more work on it!) betas of my next generation bouncer which operates like SocksCap but tunnels through HTTPS proxies will also be made available.
